The ro-ro ferry crosses from the Shetland Mainland to Ulsta on the isle of Yell on a regular basis throughout the day.  The cottage is approximately 17 miles from Ulsta and only about 1 minute from the   ro-ro ferry to the isle of Unst.

There is a café a short walk away.  The village of Cullivoe which has a shop, post office, public hall and Primary School is approximately 3 miles away.  Older pupils go to Mid Yell Junior High School.  School transport to both schools is provided by Shetland Islands Council.
